Our 3rd Annual Charter Day!
Do you remember Marillac’s Charter Day? It was an annual all-classes birthday bash that commemorated the founding of our favorite and iconic high school. It was held just before Thanksgiving break and gave us a day off of our usual class schedule. The morning started with Mass celebrated in the theater for all students and faculty. We then proceeded to the Student Center for a pancake breakfast sponsored by ICC (Interclass Council). Then back to the theater for a fierce talent competition of musical, comedy and dance acts from each class. (Did it seem the seniors always won?)
Charter Day marked the day the doors opened at that special place in time in Northfield, IL that we all shared. The stars were aligned, and our parents were wise to trust our formative teen years to the vision of Sister Constance, DC. She was the female pioneer of education who, along with her fellow sisters, gave us responsible freedom, ensured our awareness of social justice, taught us love and acceptance, and instilled leadership and independence at every opportunity. Although its doors are closed, the idea of Marillac HS is still a reason to celebrate today.
For the past three years, a growing group of Marillac grads have gathered at Hackneys to celebrate Charter Day in the new millennium. Each year the number of classmates who attend grows. It’s an excuse to have a glass of wine and reminisce with old friends. Or it’s your feel-good opportunity to help the Daughters of Charity’s missions in Chicago (Marillac St. Vincent/St. Joseph Services) during the over-commercialized holidays. Whatever your reason, grab a couple of Marillac girls, and join us as we collect and wrap Christmas gifts for the needy. (If you can’t make it, you can still order gifts online!) Last year we raised over $5,000 worth of toys and gifts for these missions.
This year, we will be working together to:
Support the toy drive for the Marillac House Christmas Store. Click here for the wish list. You may bring your unwrapped toy to Charter Day or ship it to the address provided.
"Adopt" one of the 33 children in the St. Joseph Services After School program and provide a gift for their Three Kings celebration. Click here to let us know you would like to adopt a child and we will send you his/her wish list!
Supply and stuff stockings for St. Joe's kids! Click here to volunteer to let us know you can help provide stocking stuffers. Click here to let us know you can help!

Charter Day - It's Back!
Scroll to the bottom of this page to RSVP to Charter Day!
Remember Charter Day? A fun November half-day kicking off Thanksgiving break with Mass in the theater, plenty of sweet treats back in homeroom, learning which family from Marillac House your homeroom would be adopting, enjoying the highly anticipated, ICC-sponsored Charter Day Show and inter-class contest for the most “talent,” all capped off with a birthday cake and everyone singing “Happy Birthday” to our dear Marillac High School.
Charter Day was plenty of fun, but also a time to honor and celebrate the spirit of St. Louise that had been handed down to each girl who walked the Marillac halls and to extend that spirit through the homeroom gift collection and Christmas Party at Marillac House.
It is in that same spirit that the Coming Home Legacy invites you to celebrate Charter Day once again on “Giving Tuesday,” November 28, 2017, from 7-9pm to connect with fellow alums, and to lend time, talent, and/or treasure to the work still being done by the Daughters of Charity in Chicago through Marillac St. Vincent Family Services and St. Joseph Services.
JOIN US, in any of the following ways!
- At Hackney's on Lake (1514 E. Lake Ave., Glenview) on November 28th from 7-9pm and bring an unwrapped gift from the wish list for the Marillac House Christmas Store, "adopt" a student from the St. Joseph Services after-school program and bring something from their wish list, or bring a stocking stuffer for the children at both locations! RSVP BELOW. Connect with fellow alums, enjoy free appetizers and a cash bar and wrap gifts while trading stories from past Charter Days!
- In spirit—purchase a gift off the wish list for the Marillac House Christmas Store or "adopt" a student from the St. Joseph Services after-school program and we will deliver your gifts for you. Please use the following shipping address: Marillac St. Vincent Family Services, Attn. Peggy Gudenas, MHS; 2145 N. Halsted, Chicago, IL 60614. And please enclose a gift receipt so we can acknowledge your gift(s)!
- In spirit—make a donation to support the Marillac Coming Home campaign, benefiting the educational programs of Marillac St. Vincent and St. Joseph Family Services. See our website for more information , including matching gift information.
- Volunteer: The Marillac House Christmas Store, where families shop for presents for their loved ones, is open December 16th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and is in need of volunteers! The St. Joseph Services Three Kings Day Celebration, the evening of January 10th, is also in need of volunteers! Sign up here to volunteer with fellow Marillac alums.
Questions? Please ask—contact info@marillachighschool.org.
We hope to see you on Charter Day November 28th, at the Christmas Store on December 16th or at the Three Kings Celebration on January 10th!
